Okay, so went a little extreme this weekend saying I was going to shut down my blog. I have to tell you what prompted it. There was a young guy at Chic Fil A that just seemed a little too into my ACE man. It gave me the heebie geebies and got me thinking, or shall I say more like freakin out. We have all done it, gone to the extreme and then stepped back to give it more thought.
After numerous comments, emails and phone calls from friends and family I have decided to keep my blog running. My blog has been a way for me to document my pregnancy and ACE’s life. It is serving as an even better version of a baby book. I know if I were to just put a baby book together, it would not be full of the details that I have included in my blog. One of my blogging buddies whatarelittleboysmadeof made a valid point on the subject. There are dangers constantly all around us and it is up to us as parents to teach and inform our children. This is the best way to protect them, not sheltering them from things and keeping them in a bubble. Although, at times I know we all wish we could do this.
So, thank you to everyone who took the time to share with me their feelings on the subject. Thank you for taking the time to let me know how my blog has touched your hearts and helped you out. It is because of you that I will continue my joy of blogging and documenting my journey of parenthood.
Ya know, I don’t have this issue because I actually don’t have any readers compared to this blog. BUT I can relate. I do sometimes wonder about the dangers of the internet, but I can’t let it run the way I want to do things. Personally I feel that cyberspace is really no more dangerous that real life. We all want to protect our children from the core of our being, but we can’t let that stop us from experiencing live with them. We need to start teaching them about the world and the dangers. There are dangers EVERYWHERE, there is no law stopping someone from taking a photo of your child at a public park, or walking down the street, or taking a picture from the internet.
As Mothers, as parents, every time we walk outside the house with our children we walk with our heart outside our body. We struggle with the fear throughout every. single. moment. that our child is in danger. I check my kids when they sleep, I still check on my 6 year old a couple of times a night. I worry when we drive, when we swim. I worry when my 6 year old is at school without me for 5 hours a day. I worry when he is at his friends house, when he is playing on the playground, when he is riding his bike. I worry when he plays computer games. And I do worry when I put his picture on the internet. But the internet is and will continue to be a huge part of our lives, and our futures. We need to educate our kids on it, the same way we need to educate them on water safety, or road safety.
I dont know the answer. My 6 year old asked me yesterday if he could put his pictures on the internet, so I’m thinking about opening him up a blog for him to post his drawings and stories, ridiculous yes? But Imagine what the interweb will be like when he is our age? Hopefully by then the internet will be a safer place.
Oh wow! I have been so touched by all of the sweet notes and comments I have received from you all about my blog. I really had no idea how much people have enjoyed reading it and how I have helped out other families with advice about products, CPR, ACE’s story about how he was hospitalized and so…

i certainly dont think you should shut down your blog- its a way of self expression! I mean, i know there are a lot of creepers out there but maybe just be more selective about the things you write? :)

Tumblr does have a password protected option, I think.

I wasn’t aware that you were thinking of closing down your blog. I’ve always enjoyed keeping up with the successes of a Raleigh gal. I can certainly understand your concerns as a parent about who reads the info.
